Posted: 17-Aug-2012 20:28

I have Satellite L505 with windows 7 Home Premium.
My problem is there is no bootable device, but sometimes it works and boot normally.
What should I do?

Please help me.

Set BIOS to default settings and check it again?

Try to start notebook several times using F12 at start up and let us know if all bootable devices are listed every time you do this.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me.

I already set the BIOS to default setting, and yes bootable devices are listed every time.

But sometimes when I entered to setup utility the label (HDD #1/ SSD #1) is set to None.

@ xmodi
In your case the HDD malfunction can be possible because the BIOS does not find the bootable device. I recommend testing new HDD.

@ Namretto
Sorry but this is not the same problem.
The Windows 32bit system can handle only 3.2GB RAM. This is a 32 bit limitation.
Furthermore an part of the main memory can be shared by graphic card and therefore a part of main memory can be locked.

According to the specification my laptop can have up to 8 GB memory. I have 2*2 GB installed but the system diagnostic tool show only 2 GB. The problem that the system only start randomly seems to be the same.

Hi Namretto

Possibly you’ve got some OS problems if the system does not boot properly.
Usually the RAM can be checked in Control Panel -> System.
There you can see the info about the RAM recognized by system.

PS: What notebook do you have and what system do you use?

I have Windows 7 home edition, Satellite L500D-11D, BIOS v 1.3. I have tryed to reinstall the OS but when the system dont start the CD/DVD drive doesnt work and the screen is black. Nothing happends when pressing F-buttom. Only fan sounds after pressing the start buttom. After repeating the start procedure severel times it happens that the system starts in a proper way sometimes,

Systeminfo say I have 2 GB memory though in fact i have 2x2 GB installed.

Do you think that a faliure of one of the SODIMM´s can cause this kind of problem?

Well, faulty memory can be a reason for that too... it's not impossible...

After resetting BIOS to default settings my startproblem is solved. However there still seems to be a memoryproblem that I will try to solve through replacing existing memories with new.

Txs for all support.
