Have you tried re-installing the value added package.

You have to be using the stock toshiba display drivers, the brightness control will not work with normal amd drivers.

According notebook specification your L855 was delivered with WIN7 64BIT HOME PREMIUM so I don’t understand what have you done exactly. why to install other OS version?
Anyway I just hope you have created recovery DVD before you have deleted original preinstalled OS.

Have you installed right display driver? Check it please in device manager?

... nor about Windows menu
With other words you cannot change brightness level using “Adjust plan brightness” in every available power plan, right?
Is now brightness set to maximum level?

For Satellite L850 the Fn +F2 and Fn+F3 key combination changes the screen brightness.
But I read also that the brightness would not work if you would use non Toshiba display driver. So be sure you have installed the display driver from Toshiba page!

Hi,
i got the same Problem. All Drivers are installed, I´ve downloaded almost anything from the support center....also the tool tempro , it can´t find any problem.

You build such a nice Notebook, if you fix this Problem it will be perfect!

I ask myself, do i have to use Microsoft Home Premium to set my display brightness on a lower level?

sincerely

Hi cjo

I’m asking myself if you have modified the preinstalled system or changed the Toshiba preconfigured Windows OS?
I read here in the forum about people having the same issue but they installed own Windows system… this might be a problem.

Did the Fn buttons (display brightness) work using Toshiba configured system?

thanks for reply

Yes i installed my own windows 7 64-bit ultimate and the display bightness control worked with the Toshiba configured system. The brightness control in my windows version ( windows key+x) also didn´t work. So there is maybe a Problem with the CPU-integrated Graphis-Chip "Processor Graphics Intel® HD Graphics 4000"

I noticed that there are two display driver on your support page:

29/06/12 Display Driver AMD Windows 7 - 64 Bit 8.932.5.3 World Wide
14/05/12 Display Driver Intel Windows 7 - 64 Bit 8.15.10.2639 World Wide

The AMD driver works, but i got an error by installing the intel and in my device manager is only the amd listed .

Just an idea i tried my best to solve the Issue . I did n ´t expect that changing the Toshiba configured system (win7-64bit -->win7-64bit) is an Problem.

I thought as much!
The Intel display driver is for the internet GPU… so possibly you need this driver too to get the display brightness working again.

However, you should install the Intel tools in this order
  • Intel Chipset SW Installation Utility 9.3.0.1020
  • Intel Management Engine Interface 8.0.1.1399
  • Intel Display Driver

I don’t know how you can say that. Fact is that you got your notebook with preinstalled WIN7 64BIT HOME PREMIUM and I’m 100% sure everything worked OK.

It is always problematic to install own OS and have 100% functionality as original preinstalled OS.
Anyway, I’m really wondering why you cannot get it work. Most important thing is right install order.
I don’t know how have you installed it but compare it please with this list:
