Tecra S5 - Display Adapter cannot start - Code 10

Hi,
I have a problem with my laptop (Tecra S5 series).
Every time when I start or restart my laptop, the display is moving too slow, it has yellow stripes and sometimes is blinking.
When I open the Device manager I can see the Display Adapter (NVIDIA Quadro NVS 130M) with yellow circuit with a extension mark. When I go inside it says: The device cannot start. Code 10.
Then I have to go in Safe Mode, uninstall the drivers for NVIDIA Quadro NVS 130M, install again and restart. I have noticed that when this Display Adapter is OK, then I don't have problems with my laptop screen.
Can anyone help me?

Which operating system do you use?
I don’t know since when do you have this problem but if this happen again and again I recommend you to install original OS that you got with your notebook. It contains original drivers, including display driver and something like this should not happen.

Hi,
Windows XP is my OS.
I have this notebook for several years now, and I didn't have any problems, until now.
The original OS I don't have.
I tried to find something on Toshiba site, but for Tecra only has for S10,S11, but nothing for S5.
I don't know, the Display drivers are not OK, or something else?
Any other suggestions?
Or if you can, post me some similar problems, so I can try something on my own.
Thanks

Have you installed WXP driver for Tecra S5 version 6.14.11.7590?

Hi,
Yes I downloaded those drivers, I tried to install them, but every time when I install them the yellow extension mark in Device Manager is still there. Reboot PC, and the problem is still there!
Do you have other ideas?
Thanks

Hi
Generally speaking this is the right driver… so the installation should work and the yellow exclamation mark should not appear.
You can try to install the Win XP again to ensure that the system is not muddled up but I’m afraid your graphic card may start to malfunction…
Yellow stripes on the display are mostly an sign of GPU issue...

Hi,
I have noticed that when I install the latest drivers my laptop is OK, without yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager, but after some while my laptop gets freeze, and then I have to restart it from the button (hard restart).
After that when I tried to restart, the blue screen appears with message : nv4_minisys or something like that.
I have google it the problem and I saw that my drivers are the problem.
Then I go in safe mode, uninstall the drivers, and my laptop can start again, but with problem in Device manager.
If I install the drivers that you said then, there is no changes in Device manager, the problem is still there.
Maybe I need drivers more old, I don't know, because my laptop is from 2007, as I can remember.
Thanks,

As I mentioned above: GPU driver can crashes due to graphic card problems…
So firstly it looks always like graphic driver problem but it could be GPU related issue.
That’s my personal opinion…

Hi MasterG,
thanks for your answer.
But how can I see if my graphic card is not ok? How can I test it? Is there any software program for testing?
With one word, how can I be sure that the graphic card is out?
Thanks

For common users its simply not possible to test this…
I think only an technician could test it using special tools and applications…

Hi,
after our discution from before, I went to a technician to take a look at my laptop. They said to me that, the graphical chip is out, and they can replace it. They did that, and after that my laptop for 2 mounts was ok. no yellow stripes on the screen.
But recently, the yellow stripes appeared again. I went again to the same technician and they said that the graphical chip is ok and that maybe the graphic of the laptop is out of date, i.e dead.
But is really strange for me, and I can't accept an explanation like that.
My laptop is working fine, it is just that has yellow stripes on the display, and when you are scrolling up/down the display blinks, and that is the same diagnostic like the display driver is missing.
Can some one tell me anything more, to try something else? Is there some solution for this?
Thanks,

I'm wondering and I'm confused why an technician say something like that…the notebook should function even if you would use an old display driver! I think the guy don’t want to check it properly because of the chip should be still under warranty and should be replaced free of charge.
My laptop is working fine, it is just that has yellow stripes on the display, and when you are scrolling up/down the display blinks, and that is the same diagnostic like the display driver is missing.
What you can do is to check this with an external monitor.
If external monitor would be fine, then this is NOT graphic chip issue not graphic card driver issue… in such case its display problem.
