How to downgrade BIOS on Tecra S11 - annoying CPU

I have a BIOS which is "solve" the High pitched noise problem about the i5 CPU.
But I have the latest BIOS and since then I cannot downgrade to the older BIOS that "solves" the problem.

My question is how to downgrade BIOS?
Because I will not send my Toshiba to RMA any more because they will not repair it!!!

My Tecra S11 went to RMA 2× and 2 different Toshiba authorized service partner for about 1 month. None of them repaired my laptop! Most annoying thing is that hungarian services are absolute useless!! I have a 2 year old issue with the CPU high pitched noise.

They did not replaced the faulty CPU, they replaced the motherboard!!! for no reason. OMG!
Be very careful when you buy Toshiba laptop in Hungary, and its not the Toshiba's fault but the authorized service partners!!

Please Toshiba do something!

Hi

Why are you thinking that CPU needs to be replaced?
I assume the technicians have ran some diagnosis tests which helps to detect faulty parts… I assume CPU was not affected but the real issue was the motherboard (because it has been replaced)….

However, what’s your problem exactly?
Why you want to downgrade the BIOS?

CPU high pitched noise was discussed in somewhere else, in other topic. Some Intel CPU has this issue, in a power saving state. I do not know what is the exact problem, but I hear this annyoing high pitched noise since I have this laptop. Others hear it too, on their machine, To. Tecra S11 and other brands too..

The noise is coming from the CPU heater.
Yes, the service man gave me a diagnostic test printed out,
but the noise is still there! The problem is still exists.
That diagnostic test is about the video card, RAM, HDD etc. but not the noise.

I have an older BIOS which is solves this problem. P0076v26B_EC72V180

BIOS Ver.2.6B
EC 1.80

My BIOS now is 3.30 and EC 2.00

Hi

There is a new BIOS update available on Toshiba European driver page.
Currently its v3.40
Recommend updating the BIOS.

PS: check if disabling hyper threading technology in BIOS would disable the strange CPU noise.

Hi, thanks for the advice I'll try it.

Update: I have downloded but it gives me an error message:
This BIOS package does not support this OS.

my OS is Win 7 Pro and I have downloaded the BIOS package file via the official website

Hi

I assume you’ve got a Tecra S11 PTSE3E
The BIOS for Tecra S11 is compatible with Tecra M11 and Tecra A11

On the Toshiba USA driver page you can find all BIOS versions…
The BIOS for Tecra A11-S3541 PTSE3U series should be compatible with Tecra S11 PTSE3E series.
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp

Choose Tecra A11-S3541 and download the BIOS version you want to install.
Unzip the package and check the readme.txt
There you can find info how to flash the BIOS using tradition BIOS version.
I think the win-based BIOS version would not function because you’ve got already the newest BIOS version installed.

But in my opinion you should not downgrade the BIOS because it looks like many fixes has been added to the new version…

Hi,

Thank you for this info, I'll visit the US site. Yes, I have Tecra S11 PTSE3E

My BIOS version is 3.30 + EC 2.00 and the latest is 3.40 which I cannot install.

None of the older BIOS version and the currently 3.30 doesn't solved my CPU related problem, except the one I got from an authorized service partner. That BIOS is not an official one, but I upgraded unfortunately.

I'll try to download BIOS for Tecra A11.

Thank You

edit: I have downloaded what you suggested BIOS for A11-S3541, but I do not want to brick my laptop.
What do you think, can I install it without any problem?

If none of the older BIOS version solved your issue but the one from ASP, then I would recommend getting in contact with the guys again… I think this is the best idea…

It took 3-4 month and 10-11 e-mail conversation to get the patched BIOS.
I don't think they can help me. My laptop was in RMA for 1 month. I have fed up with them.

It looks like your BIOS issue is very complex and community cannot help you. Before waiting for some “magic” solution I would get in touch with an ASP as suggested by PauPau.
