Satellite C660 - cannot enable WLan

I bought mine in November last year and have NEVER been able to use wifi since.

Tried that press FN and F8 or whatever and it didn't work.

I've had to use a bloody ethernet cable since and I think this ended up damaging the socket and leaving me without a service.

How, in simple terms, can I fix this?
Never had any such difficulties with my old Hewlett Packard 2005 model.

Hi

The simplest solution would be the HDD recovery.
This would set the notebook to factory settings and usually everything should work properly using OS configured by Toshiba.

But do you have problems with all FN buttons?
If yes, go to All Programs -> Toshiba -> Flash Cards Utility and restart this tool.
If it does not work, reinstall the Value Added Package and Flash Card Utility.
Of course don’t forget to update/reinstall the WLan driver firstly…

After reading your posting here we are missing some useful information.
We don’t know which OS do you use, we don’t know if preinstalled OS is original that you got with your notebook or not.

If your notebook was delivered with preinstalled OS than all hardware components must be installed properly, including WLAN card. You should be able to enable/disable WLAN card using FN+F8 key combination.

How to understand this? Can you see flash cards? Is WLAN option available or not? What do you see on the screen when you press FN+F8?
When the WLAN card is enabled properly all you must do is to scan area and connect to available WLAN.

You know it is not easy to discuss about this. There are so many important things. Where to start?

I don’t know if you have good experience with PCs but maybe you should ask someone for help.

None of these answers are very helpful as I am an IT novice.

Someone on another foum told me this:

"I had this problem with my Granddaughters Toshiba laptop of a similar if not the same model number and after scratching my head for an hour stumbled on the fact that the Wifi adaptors drivers needed updating even though the computer was saying the drivers were up to date.

The solution was to go to the Toshiba support page and download the latest driver for that model then un-install the current driver then re-install the newly downloaded driver.

I’m sure there are a lot of users of this laptop who have this problem as in my case the computer was only a few hours old when it was discovered and taking the thing back to a well know high street computer shop, they were baffled as well so I took it home and fixed it myself."

PLEASE HELP ME IN BASIC ENGLISH WITH NO TECHNICAL JARGON!!

Sorry but that’s the problem. If we want to understand your problem we must ask some questions and try to understand what happen again.

Everyone here on this forum want to have “simply solution”. How to offer it if we don’t even know what happen exactly.

Ok I say now reinstall Toshiba Value added package. This package contains tool for flash cards control and FN+F8 keys function that enable/disable WLAN card. I don’t know if this will help but you can try it.
I hope it was “basic English”.

Uninstall this firstly in Control Panel -> Software
Then visit the Toshiba European driver page and download the VAP from the driver list.
Then you can install it again…

I don’t know where do you live but check Toshiba page for your country. There you should find hotline phone number.
