Built in microphone is not working on Satellite P200-17C

Please help.

I have a P200-17c Satellite. Windows Vista home premium, 32 bit operating system.
The built in microphone sometimes works then stops making Skype, msn useless. The webcam works fine but with no microphone. I have updated the driver, uninstalled and reinstalled more times than I care to remember.

Sometimes this gets the microphone working for a short while then it goes mute. In the control panel sound bit is shows as working properly, but it is not.
Please help me.

Is preinstalled OS original OS that you got with your notebook.

It is always problematic to discuss about issues that happen “sometimes”. Have you checked Skype or MSN mic options when this happen?

Check in sound options > recording devices is mic is enabled and set as default device. Try so speak something and you should see reaction on green indicator. Is there some reaction?

it is the original operating system that i got.
the mic is enabled and set as the default device. when the 'sometimes' moments happen there is a reaction on the green indicator. then it goes dead within half an hour.
when the green indicator shows it also works on skype.
any ideas?

Since when does this happen?
Did you notice this issue before using Skype or MSN?

Did you check if it this would appear with fresh preinstalled system?
Of course its painful to do a recovery only to test this but who knows… if its system issue, this procedure would help to solve this…

Furthermore did you check if this would appear using external microphone?
