Satellite C660 - Windows Updates keep disabling my wireless.

The last few updates have disabled my wireless and I was only able to get it working again by winding back using System Restore.

The last time this happened (last month) even that didn't fix it and I had to let PC World look at it.
They undid Windows updates one-by-one until they eventually restored the wireless.

Their advice was to NOT let Windows automatically update my PC!
The problem I now have is when should I allow an update?

Sometimes there are important security updates.
How do I discriminate between them and more importantly why is my Toshiba prone to these problems and what is Toshiba doing about preventing them in the first place?

Hi

I cannot imagine that official windows updates would affect the Wlan functionality.
I recommend updating the WLan driver to the latest available version and to allow all windows updates.

It may seem unlikely, but it happened on 4 seperate occasions. Even PC World said that the updates were the cause (although I'm not too confident of their abilities).

The fact is that after restarting my pc following the updates, my wireless ceased to function. It was all switched on and Control Panel stated all the drivers were current, but I was unable to receive a signal from my router.

Using System Restore I was able to get it going again 3 times, but the last time it wouldn't play, so I resorted to using PC World as I have a Tech Guys contract with them. It took them a day and a half of undoing Windows updates to get it working again and they advised me to disable the automatic updates function.

Since then I haven't installed any updates and I haven't had the problem. Kind of speaks for itself really!

At the moment I use 4 laptops (2 at home and 2 in my office) all preinstalled with Windows 7. Two of them are connected with WLAN. When I get info abut new Windows updates I install them and I’ve never be faced with such issue.

Do you install important updates only or you also install optional updates too?
I ask this because in optional updates is offered (on my notebooks) update for WLAN card driver but it should not be installed. Use Toshiba drivers only.

Is “Windows update” on your notebook set to automatically or you check the list of offered updates before download and installation starts?
