Qosmio F50-10Z Bios update crashed - how do I reset cmos?

I have a Qosmio F50-10Z and as prompted by toshiba I downloaded the Bios update and began to install.
My screensaver came on and the whole thing crashed.

Would not turn off (even after holding down power button for 15 secs).
Took battery out and then put it back in. Computer powers on but screen is blank and won't boot up.

Tried to take it apart to flash the bios by taking out rtc/cmos battery (whatever it's called) but can't find the battery and got to the point where I wasn't willing to take it apart any further (has no-one else ever taken one apart?

Couldn't find information or diagram or photo of where the battery was on net...manual for laptop really unhelpful)

Have found comments about crisis disks but I don't know what this means.

So, how to I reset bios?

Please help - you are my only hope.

So, now I've located the rtc/cmos battery (turns out it's rechargeable so explains why not easily located) removed it, soldiered it back on in a more accessible place - still did not reset BIOS.

Or else, that wasn't the problem in the first place.

Any ideas? Perhaps if anyone knows where the CMOS jumper is located that might help?

Removing RTC battery would not help you to reset the BIOS ROM module…sorry mate but what you did was completely useless…
It seems that the ROM modules where the BIOS is stored, has not been flashed properly or something went wrong during the flash procedure…

In wrong case you the mobo is damage but I think flashing the ROM module once again using an crisis disk could help to solve this case…
But the point is that flashing the ROM module using an crisis disk can be done by an Toshiba ASP technician…
Therefore I recommend contacting the guys in your country and to ask for ROM flashing…

Thanks for your comments. Do you know where I can download a Bios flasher or Bios recovery crisis disk from? There seem to be a lot floating around forums but I cannot find anything specifically for my laptop. Am I missing something on the Toshiba website? I have seen people mention downloading a bios flash utility from toshiba (specifically for the F45) but can't figure out where they are getting this from...

In response to your recommendation - I know that is what I am encouraged to do but I'm in the UK - my nearest Toshiba recommended technicians are PC world conglomerate - the sort of guys who pat me on the head when I ask for specific RAM (rather than 'some memory, please'), look blankly at you when you say the word Bios, and bang their mouse when the computer freezes! Besides, they want £50 up front whether or not they manage to fix it, and given how many of my friends computers they have failed to fix that my boyfriend then fixed in ten minutes, I might as well burn my money as send it to them.

an user ale210 has had similar issue and was able to solve this…
not quite sure if this would be helpful but it worth a try… otherwise an technician help would be needed…

Thanks for your help.

So now I know that Toshiba Qosmio has Phoenix Bios - took a long time to find that out - and learned how to create a Bios crisis disk and have done so, inserting the latest version of Bios from the Toshiba website for my model into the crisis disk as suggested.

Awesome thread here should anyone else also be treading these confusing waters:
http://www.theeldergeek.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=21209

Followed instructions, took out battery, plugged in USB stick with crisis recovery disk on, held down FN+B (Win+B) and a variety of others whilst plugging back in power cable and pressing the power on button.

Sadly, the computer still powers down after a few seconds.

Can anyone suggest a next step? Could it be that I need an earlier version of my Bios in which case where can I get this from. Could it be that I need to press different buttons, in which case any idea what they might be?

Thanks in advance.

Pity to hear that… don’t know any other possible solutions for you… in worst case the motherboard is dead… but I think specialist who checked the hardware would be able to provide more details.
