Well,

As the title says, my Satellite A665 is overheating. I bought it a while ago, but it did this from the beginning. I did not expect to buy a EUR 2000,- laptop and have these issues. I only have these issues when I'm rendering and all the cpu's are maxed out.

Any solutions? I would even want to trade this laptop in for a new one.. ;-)

Hi,
If you say overheating, will your laptop turn off automatically? Can you use a software to read the CPU temperature?

Rotates/turns you fan lauderer and faster ?

Do you play games or does it also happens during normal usage? What is your current bios version?

yes my laptop just shuts down.
I'm running the latest bios, and the fans are just doing their job I guess. Temperature is rising and ofcourse overheating, dont have any monitoring software.

The only abnormal use for a laptop would be throwing it in the water while connected to the AC power.
any other use is normal, so even playing games but also pegging out all the CPU's with heavy programs, which i have.

I am not playing games on this one, but rather rendering on all CPU's or on the CUDA cores.
Both times the laptop overheated and just shuts down.

I think it's better if you remember the Toshiba service provider ask for help.

I think at the forum we can discuss over the power management, but that will not solve the problem, so contact Toshiba and ask what can be done about that problem.

Yes, this might stress the CPU a lot and leads to higher temperature…
I guess you are using Toshiba graphic card driver… do you?

This is important since the Toshiba GPU driver supports an overheating protection which slow down the GPU if critical temp level would be reached…

At the other hand I would recommend cleaning the fans (of course only if they are jammed)

Dust and debris could affect air circulation and at the end the temperature would be too high…

Otherwise the service should check the notebook since this is not a usual notebook behavior…

I'll look into the toshiba gpu driver. otherwise I'll contact support. This machina has been doing this since the first day, but its gets a bit worse after time. First Mental Ray rendering on this machine crashed it!! Not really happy with this.
You can do so much reasearch online, but with these new-ish machines there are no reviews on stress tests etc. So I would personally not recommend this laptop to heavy users at all...
