Satellite P775 reacting to different anti-virus softwares

Hi there,

I bought my Toshiba laptop at the beginning of October 2011, so it can be referred to as a 'new' laptop.
It is a P770 Satellite.

I took the McAfee free 30-day trial immediately after buying it and have not renewed it since. After buying it, I had also installed Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D and AVG to take care of day-to-day protection. It all was running fine until earlier this week, when I was asked to update my Ad-Aware to the latest version, and ever since the computer has been morbidly slow, every program invariably always ending up with 'Not Responding'.

My Internet browser (Google Chrome) gets as far as my homepage but I cannot connect to any site. I have tried to uninstall Ad-Aware (I figured this must be the problem) but it won't let me. I have heard about the incompatibility of some anti-viruses with McAfee, could this be one of them?

If there were incompatibility between Ad-Aware and McAfee, surely this wouldn't explain the painful speed of my laptop and its unresponsiveness. This is something I can only imagine is a virus.

Could I please have some help on this matter?

Would my warranty cover such a problem if I sent my Toshiba back to Toshiba for this particular fix?

Thanks in advance,

Cameron

Hello Cameron

Generally speaking Toshiba has nothing to do with your “problem”. If you use mix of different applications and now you are not happy with notebooks performance contact software manufacturers and their support for help.

What everyone here can say, and the same you will hear from Toshiba, is that you should reinstall Toshiba recovery image and start to use notebook with “factory settings” again. I don’t understand why do you use McAffe and AVG at the same time.

Either use preinstalled McAffe or remove it from the system and install some other antvirus application. I recommend you http://www.avira.com/en/index . I use it for years now and it is really good antivirus application.

Hi

Probably you installed too many anti-virus software.
Usually you should use one antivirus application… usage of two or more antivirus software at the same time could cause system problem since both tools would scan the system at the same time.

I use avast Antivirus. The avira antivirs is also good freeware software.
I tested both and can recommend both tools.

To remove the old software you should start the notebook in safe mode (pressing F8)
Then you should be able to uninstall all the installed software and can clean the system using CCleaner (freeware too).

My first post here, so Hi everyone.
Last night, whilst reading up on suitable anti virus programs to install after my Norton expires, I read that Windows (7) recommends not using (installing/running) too many anti virus/ spyware /Malware programs at once. They even suggested Microsoft security essentials (free) though I will most probably be going with AVG 2012.

Not sure if this may help.but from previous experience of late, I am not a fan of Ad Aware. Although I used it for years without complaint, the last 6 months have forced me to un installed it from my other computers (2) running XP Pro.
All the best

I agree with you Yande. I mean why to use two or more antivir software. It is enough to have one who runs in the background and check what happen with OS. I believe that every one of us has preinstalled some additional software for system check but it must not run all the time and can be used from time to time for system scan.

I use avira for years now and I’m happy with it. Friend of mine uses AVG and he is also very satisfied how it works.

I advise that you could change another antivirus software-Norton 360 version 5.0.
It's the fifth version of Norton antivirus software, having all the protective power of Norton Internet Security 2011.

It has the best firewall and it can backup your photos, music and other important documents.
When you surf on the Internet, it protects your safety on shopping, social activities and the business of the Internet bank.

That you can rest assured to send and receive E-mail,chat and download files.
What's more,it's very cheap and convenient.
