Portege Z830 - BSOD installing windows XP

Hi guys/gals,

Been trying to install windows XP on this machine for an internal user, unfortunately we need this machine to use XP. However i keep getting blue screens during the windows XP setup phase.

I downloaded the AHCI drivers for windows XP from the toshiba website and loaded them during the windows XP setup phase but keep getting the same blue screen.

We also have loaded into the bios and tried to change the sata controller mode to IDE but it is greyed out and we cant change it (i think this is in due to the ssd, but i may be wrong)

Im currently stuck at the moment and dont know how to proceed, there are windows XP drivers available on toshibas website for this machine but i cant get it installed, there must be a way to install it.

Hi

What Portege Z830 do you have exactly? I check the Toshiba European driver page for Win XP drivers for Portege Z830 but could not find any?

Are you sure you have downloaded the compatible AHCI driver?

Can you please post the link where you have found this driver?
there are windows XP drivers available on toshibas website for this machine
On European page there is nothing for WXP. Do you have US machine or what?

Hi guys sorry for the late reply. Im actually based in Australia and i used the Aussie toshiba website.

I recommend you using a freeware tool called nLite.
Using nLite you could create an own Win XP disk containing all the Serivce packs (Sp2 + SP3) and you could add the missing AHCI and other Intel drivers to this disk.
After that you could use this disk in order to install the Win XP…

In my case this worked great but I’m not Z830 owner….

Hi

Maybe you have a corrupted windowxp cd/dvd. In my experience before i also had the same problem as yours ,it was on
my desktop pc an old one. The cause of that problem was an outdated windows xp installer. I had two cd's both sp3, the other one has updated with ahci/sata controller.

If the problem still continue try to format the hard disk first with other tools software like hiren bootable cd then boot again with xp cd/dvd. hope i help you.

The link provided by zact seems to be the only way to get those XP drivers, I checked google extensively and couldn't come up with another download source, and toshiba support in germay claims no knowledge of any XP drivers for the Z830 (admittedly, i did not bother to go up higher in their support structure as they charge money per minute calling ...).

I am no busily downloading those with a paltry 10Kb/second, it will take the entire day,so I am now wondering:

Has anybody successfully installed XP on a Z830, and secondly, has he gotten the 3G modem to work ?

I ordered a Z830 with 3G, should be here end of week, shivering with anticioation ...
