Toshiba NB205 - Recovery Media was corrupted
Posted: 20-May-2012 23:08

I have a Toshiba NB205. My netbook wasn't running as smoothly as when I first purchased it, so I decided to do a recovery on it. This netbook does not have a disk drive, so the recovery program gave the option to have the recovery media placed on a flash drive. So I went ahead with the recovery, everything was deleted from the netbook, and then when it went to re-install, about 20% in it said there was an error, and the flash drive was corrupted.

So now, I'm stuck with a netbook that has no O.S. on it. Is there anyway to fix this without having to spend $40 on an external drive & then another $40 to purchase recovery media from Toshiba to correct their mistakes.

Correct
That’s pity man but it seems your flash memory stick was/is not ok…
Do you have another Windows 7 disk from Microsoft?

In such case you could use such disk to create an bootable USB flash memory stick and you could install genuine Win 7 system using such USB stick.

The missing drivers could be downloaded from Toshiba driver page:

You should firstly burn/create and ISO image from Win 7 DVD. To do that you can use an tool called ImgBurn.
Now you should use the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool to create a bootable USB memory stick to get the Win 7 installed.

The flash drive I used is fine. I still have it and use it everyday for school. Looks the error must have occurred during the formatting.

Regardless, thank you SO much for your reply, it worked like a charm.
I got a copy of windows 7 ultimate from my college. Thankfully since I'm a student it only cost like $12.
I used IMGBURN to make the ISO file and then used that Microsoft download tool to make a bootable flash drive. Installed with no problem! I would have never known to use that tool from Microsoft if you hadn't mentioned it. So again, Thanks for the help!
