Portege M600 - Backlight switch location
Posted: 08-May-2012 04:42

The display backlight is off and will not turn back on. I can see the laptop when it's directed to a 2nd monitor. I can see very faintly the desktop on the laptop screen- except it is dark. I have tried all the software fixes I can find in this forum but nothing works.

One suggestion I have found that the switch that turns off the display when the lid is closed is stuck in the off position. This makes sense but how do I locate this switch.

Is it incorporated in the display panel hinge?

Have you noticed this from the moment when you switch the notebook ON (Toshiba welcome screen and BIOS settings)?
I cannot say for sure but I’m afraid described problem has nothing to do with software but with FL inverter. Maybe is FL inverter defective and must be exchanged.

This means that this is not software issue.
Foggy and faintly display means mostly an problem with the FL inverter…
I think it a job for an Toshiba ASP who would need to check this firstly before replacing the part.

Fl inverter is a small part which controls the display backlight… if its faulty the display will appear dark.

I replaced the FL inverter using one from a similar laptop that had died. All is well now. Thanks again
