I have been using a Satellite C650-S5049 for 1 and a half years. Until recently, the Atheros wireless card stopped functioning and has been causing a lot of mayhem for my laptop.
a. Whenever i try to enable the wireless driver from device manager, i was greeted with BSOD. Even if it does not do that, it would suddenly start to lag very badly. The lag disappears when I disable the wireless driver.
b. Sometimes when i try to switch on the wireless via flash card(F8), there is no F8 flash card and device manager does not detect the wireless card.
I tried reinstalling the driver but to no avail. I even upgraded by BIOS and did a full system scan for virus and malware but there is none.
Is it a problem of my driver, hardware or some other issues?
In my opinion the problem could be a faulty WLan card.
This would explain why the BSOD appears enabling the WLan.
The FN + F8 key combination would function only if the Wlan card is installed and recognized properly…
If the device manager cannot detect the Wlan card properly, the Fn + F8 would not functions.
By the way: did you try to test the notebook using Toshiba preinstalled system?
Would be interesting to know how it works… recover the notebook and test the Wlan once again.
