Hi,

I have Toshiba Camileo H30 camera, how can I convert video files recorded in FullHD mode into any good quality files/format that can be played by DVD player ?

When left unconverted they cannot be even played from the remote hard drive connected to the TV.
I know that his camera records videos as AVCHD files with h264 but have no clue how can I covert them to any reasonable and recently used format.

I tried some converters but no positive effect.

Please help !!!

Hi

You could use some converter apps like “AVCHD Converter”.
This would convert the AVCHD files to .avi format.

But as far as I know the VLC player should support the AVCHD file format and you could use VLC player to play the movies recorded in this format.

Thanks a lot for qiock reply.

I would like to play the videos on some standard DVD so would need to convert to avi, VLC player is no help here unless I want to watch only on the laptop.

some additional questions:

  • if I record a video on the camera which is not Full HF or HD mode would it be also AVCHD file ?
  • will there be a big quality loss after convertion from AVCHD file to avi ? - here I have some problem in understanding this as the files which are AVCHD files have avi extension so this seems quite unlogical to convert from avi to avi ?

According to the Toshiba user manual and some info on different websites, the Camileo H30 supports avi (video) format. So movies should be stored in avi.

Of course the Full-HD movies are big files, so converting to other format (for example mpeg, mp4 or mkv) would decrease the file size but the quality would be lower…
However, you have to choose between small size or HD quality.

To convert the AVCHD to AVI was just an example… you can convert the files also to mkv format using Xilisoft AVCHD Converter or (Xilisoft HD Video Converter)
but such software is not freeware :(
