Portege Z830 - Display backlight stays off after standby

Hello guys!

As discribed in subject, the display backlight stays always off when my z830 PT225E comes back from standby. It is only backlight, because I can see the picture dimly if I hold the screen against a light. Also using FN+F7 doesn't change anything on this state. Only thing which works is to reboot.

Is there any update of display driver? Or is there any workarround to get back display backlight?
By the way, bios is up to date with version v1.60.

Hi,

Do you have the factory Windows installation installed?

If yes, have you removed any Toshiba utilities from Control Panel?

Sounds like you need to reinstall the Value Added Package.

Hi

Have you noticed this issue from teh first day of usage or later?
Have you changed anything, installed some additional software or maybe your own OS version?

Hi mate

Try to disable this setting:
Intel display panel - power tab - power source/battery - power conservation feature - display power saving technology – uncheck

Please post some feedback if this helped.

First of all thanks for all the answers!

@Akuma: Factory Windows is installed. Of course other software is installed. How should I use the laptop without additional software? Which tool is responsible for this behaviour? Maybe a reinstallation helps. But I think its a driver or firmware problem, because stanby is not a thing of a utility.
Standby should also work with a pure Windows without any of this rubish vendor tools, slowing down my system

@Silas: First time it works correct. Of course I've done windows updates and installed programmes which I need to work with.

@Tonny: I tried it, but state of Intel HD3000 energie saving does not change anything to the behaviour after standby.

Hello again!

Today Inoticed that also FN+F6 FN+F7 don't work. The symbols appear at upper corner, but nothing happens. All other function keys have their function

Which software controls this normaly?

Can you change display brightness using this option in power options?

It is controlled by Toshiba value added package (flash cards) but it works if display driver is installed properly. You can try to reinstall display driver and check functionality again.

I have the same problem: FN F6/F7 keys do not work.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled the Value Added Package, still won't work.
I took the machine to Toshiba Customer Service in plaza Low Yat in KL yesterday and the technicians response was "Sorry, nothing can be done. You need to perform factory restore."

He also told me never to install Windows updates.
I argued with him for a while, be he remained adamant that Windows updates are all non-essential and will only cause problems with Toshiba drivers. I'm sorry, but that is a load of rubbish.

Especially coming from Toshiba support personnel.
I'm very unhappy with the response, and there is nothing that I can do to resolve this issue.
