Satellite L755 - Webcam is not working - interactive window station

Dear Toshiba Community,

I have a Toshiba L755 series. I was able to use the built-in webcam with Skype. while running skype recently, i was surprised to see that the camera couldn't be found.
I went to Device Manager to see what the problem could be, and there i couldn't see any "Imaging devices", as if the camera hardware didn't originally exist.

I tried then scanning for hardware changes. A new hardware was found, but while try to install the driver, I get a message saying that:
Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device.
Windows found the driver software for your device but encountered and error while attempting to install it.
This operation requires an interactive window station.

Note that the Device is being recognized as: TOSHIBA Web Camera – MP.
I tried to search online for this driver but couldn’t find any.
I also tried to download and install the Driver from Toshiba support, but again, still not working.

Please help.

Hi

On the Toshiba European driver page you can find the webcam driver v2.0.0.19 and v2.0.0.13.

Have you tried both?

Usually the webcam software can be found in Control panel -> Software
Uninstall the webcam software there and reboot the notebook.
Now you should clean the registry since every installation leaves some tracks in the registry… I can recommend an CCleaner tool… its freeware and cleans system very well…

After you cleaned the registry, reboot the system and try to install the webcam driver v2.0.0.19

Hi Paolo,

I downloaded and tried installing the driver again but nothing happened. Even the "Web Camera Application" doesn't respond or gives any sign that it's working. I also checked the driver again from device manager and it still gives the same notice: Toshiba Web Camera - MP.
The driver is listed under "Other Devices" and not under imaging where it should usually be.

Note that the driver i downloaded is listed for a x64 windows platform while my latop has a windows 32 version.
I couldn't find a driver for win 32.

This might be the reason why you cannot get this working on your system.
You will need the 32bit version.
I found a webcam driver for Win 7 3bit for a Satellite L675 series.

Webcam driver v1.1.1.15

Not quite sure if it would work but theoretically it should functions.

I downloaded and installed the driver version as you told me about, but again, same result, nothing happened

Hi mcram

The second screenshot shows that you tried to “update” the webcam driver.
I recommend choosing the option “Uninstall”.
This would remove the driver completely from the system.
Then you should reboot the notebook and should install the previous downloaded webcam driver once again.

I also tried what you said:
1. Uninstall Driver
2. Uninstall Application
3. Restart
4. Re-install Application.

But unfortunately i got the same results:
The driver is still listed under "Other devices" and is not recognized. I also get a this "Interactive window" message when i try to manually install the driver, because i have the .inf file since the webcam was running fine originally.

Is there any other way to start a fresh installation? like resetting any registry key or completely removing the driver from its roots and re-install it again?

Well, the ini file is the driver… so search your computer for this file and delete it manually. Then go to device manager and delete the webcam entry which appears under “Other devices”.
After that reboot the notebook. Usually the Windows OS searches automatically for drivers but if the ini file has been deleted, the OS should not find the driver… this is your chance to install the driver again.

I think it’s a drastic procedure to recover the notebook but if nothing helps, I think that this would be a chance to get the webcam working again on your system.
Might be worth a try.. what do you think about this idea?

Hi Tonny,

I'm trying to avoid opting for that solution but eventually i might have to install a fresh copy of windows on my laptop.
But before i do, i need to try every possible solution.
