Satellite C660 will not boot from USB

Sorry but we don’t know what is saved on your USB stick and what you want to do exactly.

Enter BIOS and set it to default settings, restart notebook and press F12 at start up. In boot menu choose USB device and press ENTER.

What happen when you do this?

Hi

The USB flash memory has to be connected before powering up the notebook.
Then you can press F12 to get the USB boot option visible in the boot menu.

Hi

The BIOS supports booting from USB memory… in my opinion the only plausible explanation for this issue is an memory stick issue…
Possibly it’s not formatted and partition properly.

The USB memory stick should be formatted in NTFS files system.
Using command “diskpart” in CMD you could partition the USB memory stick.

Using command “list volume” shows you all attaches and available partitions.
Now use command select volume (and number of the USB flash stick ie select volume 4)

After choosing the USB flash memory you have to make this active using command: active. Now exit from DiskPart using exit command.

After that you have to create boot sector on USB stick using "bootsect.exe” and the command bootsect /nt60 F: (F means the USB flash memory stick letter)

Now you can copy all files from Win 7 disk to the memory stick…. Now you should have an bootable USB win 7 stick

At what here NTFS? Linux uses ext, xfs, reiser etc.
When I only bought the laptop, I was loaded from a flash card on which Simply Linux was preset. After the BIOS updating the computer of it came ceased to do. Can show you video of all process?

This was just an simple example of an bootable USB flash stick…
Of course it’s your choice, if you want to use Linux or Windows bootable flash memory.

But I would like to know if the notebook can boot different USB flash memory sticks using different systems. In such case you could determine whether its USB stick or notebook issue… you know…

I encounter the same problem, I want to boot from an USB-stick. According to the documentation I have to change the boot order (for USB) in the BIOS. But in the BIOS no USB is listed.

Plug the USB flash memory stick to the USB port. Power up the notebook and press F12.
Now boot menu should appear where you could choose USB as bootable device.

NOTE: if the USB memory stick is not compatible (or wrong, faulty, etc..) the USB bootable device would not be visible in booting menu.
