Satellite A300 - Cannot install Ubuntu - empty non-blinking command

Hello,

I want to install Ubuntu 11.10 on my Satellite A300 (psag4e), but when I insert the installation CD, boot hangs after that Toshiba part with an empty non-blinking command line.

What should I do?

Set BIOS to default settings and try again.
Do you use original Linux installation disc?

Have you tried your install disk on another machine? It could be corrupt.
Another idea is to try installing 11.04 and upgrade from there. I would even go as far back as 10.4 to be sure.
