What do you mean exactly by “Windows works vey slow”.
Does the notebook needs long time to boot up the Windows OS?

Please provide more details.

I mean that the notebook works slow. Everything is slow in it except of the boot up, that's the only thing that works normal.

Notebook performance depends on the notebook usage.
Means that notebook performance can goes down if you use many applications which need a lot of hardware resources.
Also many processes which are running in the background can affect the notebook performance.

Faulty or not defragmented HDD is one reason for slowdowns too… dirty system and registry might affect the functionality as well…

So as you see there are many factors for slow notebook performance…

That is probably because of using too many applications, which actually is because of low values of the hardware. Upgrade your OS to a 64bit and put 4GB RAM in it. Then it will go fast... Hopefully.

I have the same problem with my NB550D. I have searched the whole forum and finally found. Well I knew I had to change the RAM but the Toshiba guys here said my netbook can only support 2GB.

I did not believe of course. I made a research and found out that Windows 7 starter 32bit can only sustain 3.2 GB of RAM.
Since there is no 3.2, they advice you 2.
But they do not tell you that if you upgrade the OS to 64bit and put 4gb, then it will sustain... At least the forum here said that;

So the only remaining question here is;
How can you possibly upgrade your OS, if your netbook has no cd-rom?
Maybe by turning a flash drive to a recovery device... Right now, I am still searching that answer.

First of all you can create a bootable USB stick and you can create a Recovery USB stick.
Please check the preinstalled tool called Toshiba Recovery Creator.

Secondly the notebook can boot from USB flash stick. So you could install the Windows OS from USB and you don’t need the CD/DVD drive.

Here i found a nice instruction:

Well, I had to remove a lot of Toshiba and trial software from startup.
You don't need all those processes running, like Tempro, Bulletin Board and so on.
You can remove all that, including McAfee trial, and install a light antivirus like Microsoft Security Essentials.
From the drivers available for NB500 I can only recommend Intel and Realtek drivers.
For a clean Windows, uninstall all Toshiba software, except Eco Utility for powersaving.
I'm affraid the rest of it is pure junk (sorry!)

There are quite a lot of possible reasons that may cause a slow computer.
- Outdated hardware configuration;
- Overload startup programs;
- Corrupted registry issues;
- Remnants of uninstalled applications;
- Too many Windows Temporary junks;
- Poor security software

There are a few common things you can do for the issues.
* Restart regularly
* Delete programs you never use
* Limit how many programs load at startup
* Run fewer programs at the same time
* Turn off visual effects
* Check for viruses and spyware
* Disable services you don’t need

These are manual ways to fix, for a tech geek, it's easy; for a computer newbie, it's hard.
As a result, you can take a try of speed up tool , which can help you easily and instantly tune up your slow computer & fix all issues with just a few clicks.

Meanwhile, you should take your Toshiba as a baby and should do some system maintenance job regularly - she/he will return for you :)
