Portege R830-10P - BIOS settings problem
Posted: 28-Jan-2012 22:31

I tried to BIOS update, I found the newest BIOS, downloaded and run ...
Then Windows show pop up message :

TOSHIBA BIOS Package Ver.4.1.2

BIOS Version : Current Ver.2.10 --> Updated Ver.3.50
EC Version : Current Ver.1.10 --> Updated Ver.1.30

Because the Intel TXT (Trusted Execution Technology) is enabled, the BIOS and EC update cannot be executed.

I rebooted the machine pressed F2 to enter the BIOS and then ... I can't change "Trusted Execution Technology" feature from ENABLE to DISABLE also can't turn on TPM. The same problem I have with Virtualization also can't change feature.

I really don't know why BIOS make this kind of jokes, few days before i can change any options and now I can't. Described features are on black and cursor skips them ...

Hi

Does this mean that you was able to change the TPM and Trusted Execution Technology in the past?

Did you try to set the BIOS to default settings?
In BIOS press F9 and save the changes… this should set the notebook’s BIOS to default.

Furthermore check the Toshiba HWSetup tool which can be found in All Programs -> Toshiba -> Utilities.
Here you can change the BIOS settings too

YES I was able to change this features in the past.

YES I tried, many times ... no changes.

Furthermore check the Toshiba HWSetup tool which can be found in All Programs -> Toshiba -> Utilities.

YES I know :) Also tried change features by HWSetup but, there is only one feature from my problem list "Core Multi-Processing". When I tried to change this option by HWSetup there was an error popup message shown.

I made some pictures of this what i see when BIOS running

You can see what's happened when i push dow arrow. Cursor skip the feature ...

It's look like my notebook has its own life :)

Guess what?
Try to flash the BIOS using the dos based BIOS.
Such BIOS can be found on the Toshiba US driver page:
Portege R830-S8332 Drivers & BIOS

The European Portege R830-10 PPT321E is similar to Portege R830-S8332 and the BIOS is compatible.
I think this is worth a try…

Guess what ?

This is exactly the same bios file as from EU servers.
And guess what was happened when I use it ?
Exactly the same what was before ...

Hi

You current BIOS version seems to be 2.10
Maybe you should try to update the BIOS to an older version than v3.50 and after that you could follow with the BIOS v3.50

But the BIOS package contains also an DOS based BIOS so you could update the BIOS from DOS too.

Yes, current BIOS version is 2.10 and EC is 1.1

I have got BIOS version 1.50 / 3.00 / 3.50 and tried all of them. Also in DOS mode. Still have the same information: Trusted Execution Technology is enabled the BIOS update cannot be executed.

Now I have only one solution for this problem, "change the mainboard" that is what Toshiba Serwis said. Still waiting for information from Toshiba Hot Line ...

Hi

As far as I know the motherboard does not need to be exchanged…
The technicians should be able to update the BIOS using the traditional BIOS update procedure and then the BIOS settings (TPM) could be changed.

@maciekmck and luma

It would be interesting to know if the issue has been solved?
I got an similar issue and got this BIOS from a service agent. I uploaded this here:

Portege R830 Versions: BIOS v3.60, EC v1.40

How to use. (Same as normal BIOS update package)
Step 1. Extract ZIP file to target PC.
Step 2. Execute program then start the BIOS and EC update.

@Paolo30: This file has worked perfectly for me. I have on R830-10P from Portugal. I was trying to get help from Toshiba tech support @Portugal but they were not able to help me. I'm on Brazil, so replacing parts demand sending my notebook to other country. Too bad.

I was not able to disable Intel TXT and I was not able to update my BIOS.

Your file saved my day. Thank you!
