Satellite A660 - BIOS Update Problem

Hi

I have a Satellite A660 and my battery doesn't want to charge...it sticks to 0% and when I unplug the cord, the computer shuts down. After many computers restarting and failing finally understood what the problem was. The problem was my BIOS which is Version 1.20.

When I try to install the BIOS, I always get these three errors:
BIOS Version Above 2.00
Battery Capacity more than 20%
AC is attached

Thanks for your answers.

Sounds like the BIOS Update needs at least 20% battery charge so you either need to update the BIOS with another battery or send the notebook to a Toshiba Repair center to do the BIOS update.

Since when do you have this notebook and since when do you have this charging issue?

When you start your notebook without battery and put the battery in place when OS is fully loaded is battery recognized properly? Does load start or the problem persists?

Well, there was a similar issue on Satellite U400 and Portege M800 series and this has been solved by BIOS update.

Not sure if this would be the same case on Sat A660 but you should definitely try this out. You can try to re-insert the AC-Adapter for several times until the battery is detected and the unit powers on. If this does not help please remove the Main Battery and try again.
Then update the BIOS

Hi there

I would not count on it.
Maybe you can let us know the model-number (not serial) of your unit and it may help.

But if the battery was working fine until recently and then stopped charging, I don't think you will solve it with a BIOS update.

Hi again

It seems your model is built for Canada. I could find it on the Canadian Toshiba site.
No information about revisions information of the BIOS in your model was provided though.

However, as it seems many hardware platforms are similar, however NOT always compatible, I looked at the US web which more generously provides revision information for the BIOSes and I found the BIOS which probably is similar or related to your BIOS, and there are in fact some battery-related fixes.

Have a look here: Link: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=DL&os=&category=&moid=2726536&rpn=PSAW3U&modelFilter=A660-BT2G22&selCategory=2756709&selFamily=1073768663#

So this is a tricky case.
You may need to update to solve a problem with the battery but the update refuses because the battery does not have the proper energy level.

I suggest You ask your ASP / support for help with this!

as far as I know BIOS update is not necessary for such problems. It must be something else, probably power supply electronic so I think BIOS update will not help at all.
i got this problem since i bought it and i bought it on november 8th of this year.
Why do you wait so long? Contact your local dealer or Toshiba directly and ask for help. It is definitely warranty issue.
