Wireless signal not detected on Satellite Pro 6100

I have two Satellite Pro 6100 laptops, both of them are configured to automatically connect to our local wireless router which they both do on startup.
One computer is used by myself the other by my wife; bookmarks, e-mail accounts and so forth are different on each computer/hard drive.
I am having problems with one of the computers (mine) - the usual problem with the multi-pin connectors on the video and power supply boards, so I tried to use 'her' computer with the hard drive from 'my' machine.
Her machine does not recognize our local network with my hard drive installed. It does come up with a new network found but not a wireless network. Also with this machine and my hard drive installed I cannot get the machine to search for local wireless networks the icon does not appear. The switch is in the on position for wireless signals and it works fine with her hard drive in it. The network is protected and both machines have the same id in them for connection which work fine when in the original machines.
I truly do not understand this condition. Something in the bios? Something on my hard drive that is not recognized by the computer? the wrong phase of the moon?
Any suggestions how to trouble shoot and correct this?
Both machines have XP Pro on them, latest updates.

Hi
As far as I know Satellite Pro 6100 was equipped with different Wlan cards so if use different HDD with different driver then the Wlan card would not be detected by Windows XP.
Check if the Wlan card is listed in device manger and recognized properly.

My computer has a Toshiba wireless LAN mini PCI card, hers has the Atheros AR5005G.
When I replace my HD with hers the computer automatically sees the wireless network and asks for the key and the connection is made.
When I replace her HD with mine the computer thinks it sees an ethernet adapter as new hardware. It does not check for or see any wireless network.
I copied the driver from her HD onto a thumb drive but device manager would not accept it. When I browsed to the driver it did not accept it and the 'next' dialog box stayed dim. I don't know if simply copying the driver file to the windows/system32/drivers folder will cause any other issue.
This has me confused. The previous answer was correct as far as the hardware configuration goes but the Atheros is seen as an ethernet adapter to my HD. I have no other way of connecting the computer to the internet.
Still at an impasse, any more suggestions?

It is really confusing. Your notebook is pretty old and I was 100% sure the WLAN card you use is maybe not compatible for this oldie but after reading your last posting I’m confused even more.
Have you installed latest Atheros driver from Toshiba WLAN portal - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/ ?

Your answers helped me to get this resolved.
I used device manager and found out that the Atheros wlan is what my HD has listed as an ethernet adapter.
I went to the toshiba URL you gave and downloaded the latest driver package (with her HD installed) and copied it to a removable drive. After switching to my HD I opened the file, extracted the files and the computer came up with a 'wireless network found' message.
Completed the connection, put in the password and all is well.
Thanks for your inputs.
I still don't understand why the Atheros wlan came up as ethernet adapter but there are some mysteries that are not meant to be solved, perhaps this is one of them.
