Upgrading memory on Satellite L500D-13C
Posted: 07-Jun-2011 09:04

Hi!

I own a Satellite L500D-13C laptop and I'm considering upgrading the RAM memory from 2 x 2GB to 2 x 4GB. According to a model-specific list on compatible accessories this 4GB PC2 DDR2 (800MHz) memory, item # PA3670U-1M4G, is recomended by Toshiba.

What I would like to know is whether this specific memory module (with item # PA3670U-1M4G) is the only compatible module for my laptop or if I could search for and buy corresponding (and hopefully less pricy) memory modules with same spec (800mhz, etc.) without damaging my PC?

TI would appreciate some advice on this.

Cheers!
Terentino

Hello

You can also buy other memory module with the same specification. Fact is that some cheap and no-name modules can be responsible for compatibility problems at start. It can happen that on start-up notebook’s display will stays black.

Due to this fact I strongly recommend you to use high-quality modules and Kingston is one of the best memory modules manufacturers.

I understand you that you want to save your money but you buy this now and it should work properly.

Hi terentino and thanks for your reply!

What about Corsair? Isn't it a fairly well renowned and reliable brand as well?

Is it possible (and recomendable) to upgrade only one memry module (ie. keep one of the 2GB modules and replace the other one with a 4gb module = 6GB)?

Cheers!

Hi saint19,

I haven’t tested Corsair because I always bought Kingston and was satisfied because this brand always worked in my case. Corair is also big and known memory module producer, just try it and send some feedback if it worked or not.

The maximum capacity of L500D-13C is 8GB so theoretically you can upgrade to 6GB without any problems.

Hi Xardas!

"The maximum capacity of L500D-13C is 8GB..."

Yes, the maximum capacity is 8GB (I suppose you mean 2 x 4GB).

"...so theoretically you can upgrade to 6GB without any problems."

Do you mean that upgrading to 2 x 4GB on my L500d-13c could present a problem?

(I apologise if I might have missinterpreted your posting)

Cheers!

Definitely not. With 8GB RAM your notebook will run like a rocket. ;)

Hi saint19,

Quad is right and 8GB is absolutely no problem (2x4GB). Your notebook will run very fast with 8GB ;)

Just what I need :)

Are there any 3GB memory modules available? Or can I upgrade only one module: 2GB x 4GB = 6GB?

Hi Xardas!

Great :)

I guess then, that all specs need to be the same (apart from the memory capacity) when running one 2GB and one 4GB module?

Hi saint19,

3GB modules are not on the market. You can only order 2GB or 4GB module.
