TV doesn't recognize the HDMI connection

I put Windows XP on my PC rather than Windows 7. I installed so I thought all the correct drivers but my TV does not recognise a connection when using a HDMI cable to watch films through my laptop. I want to be able to drag the window onto the tv screen to watch a film and still use my laptop for other things.

Please help me.
