Satellite 230CX - Win95 upgrade to 98SE

My mother in law has an old Satelite 230CX that she uses to play cards etc on and I am trying to upgrade the Win95 to Win98SE.

I get the message that Utilities 95 is not compatible with Win98SE. Notes in setup.txt point me to websites that no longer appear to include this particular Satelite model.

How do I uninstall the utilities so that I can upgrade to 98SE

TIA
Jack Black

WOW… what a oldie!!!
This unit is not known to me but I think I know what’s wrong.

The installed Toshiba Utilities don’t work with the Win98Se and you have to remove it firstly.

I think you should take a look into the control panel -> (add & remove) Software or programs… I don’t know how it’s called exactly.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I've already been in there and can't actually see a 'Utilities' that can be removed.

Hello

I have acquired two toshiba machines... a sattellite 310 cds and a 2540 cds...

I had a blonde moment recently and deleted files off the 2540... It had windows 95 and I commenced to upgrade to 98 but it locked up and I turned it off.

It now won't boot and will not read data from the 3.5".. it will light up when I put a cd in it... but now need boot material loaded onto a cd.

Can anyone send me the boot files appropriate to either of these machines.

Thank you

Hello

To find people with good knowledge about those old notebooks is not so easy. Who knows how the software is configured. The notebook is about 12 years old.
The fact is that old Satellite 230CX is not supported for Win98 and you should be happy if notebook runs well with supported Win95.

Satellite 4070 is supported for Windows 98 and on Toshiba support page you can find drivers, tools and utilities. I recommend you to make clean WIN98 installation first.

I have just upgraded from Win 95 to Win 98SE.

The way I did it was to run Win 95, click start, shut down and restart in DOS. At the DOS C:/WINDOWS prompt, type format C: then hit return. Wait for the hard drive to format, then pop the Win 98SE disk in the drive, restart the PC and choose run from CD ROM. You should then be able to install 98SE.

I assume that you have a CD ROM drive :-)

I have another 230CX that I need some memory and a hard drive for, can anyone help?

Regards,
Steve
