Satellite R630 - No sound via HDMI
Posted: 25-Sep-2010 19:22

Hi

I can't find a way to get the sound via HDMI on my R630. I've tried the audio properties in Control Panel but there is no option to set the default audio device to HDMI like there was on my old machine.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mark

Hi buddy,

I had the same problem but the solution is quiet easy: In Windows sound settings you must set HDMI as default output.

Just check this FAQ article from Toshiba, in my case it worked:

Cheers for the link,

My problem is that the Sound options in Control Panel doesn't have the "Digital Output" option... there is only only one option for "Speakers".

Hi

Click right and mark the options;
  • enable hidden devices
  • enable disabled devices.

This should help you to show hidden or disabled devices in control panel -> sound -> playback

Hey,

Thanks for the tip but still no joy.

Wondering if there is some driver I can install?

Hi

Thanks for the tip but still no joy.
What does this mean? Did you make the devices visible?

You don’t need any additional drivers.
Usually the sound driver controls this so be sure that sound driver was installed properly…

…and as I said, make the devices visible and then choose the Digital Output Device as “Default” output…

Sorry - it means it didn't work.

I made all hidden / disabled devices visible but still nothing.

No options for using HDMI / Digital output.

I only have one option available: "PC Speakers".

I guess I'll try a sound update tonight.

Should I be updating the Realtek audio or the Intel Display Audio?

Hi

You should update the sound driver.
I don’t know what sound card your notebook support but you could check this in device manager under Sound, video and game controllers.

There you should find the sound chip name.
