Hi, its not possible. The newer CPU's need a newer Intel Chipset on the Mainboard.

Plus there are thermal problems, power supply issues, BIOS compatibility, RAM compatibility.

I you want to drastically improve system performance, installing a good SSD is the best option.

Hi Oscar

In my opinion SSDs are pretty expensive at the moment and I think you should not spend a lot of money for it now.
I think you should upgrade RAM to maximum level and make good OS configuration and you should be satisfied with performance.
I don't know what you are doing with your notebook but for “every day” activities it will be quite enough.

Hi RetroGeneration,

SSD means Solid State Drive and in my opinion it’s successor of old HDD.
Theoretically it’s the same as HDD because there you can install OS and all other stuff but SSD uses flash memory instead mechanical parts. On Wikipedia you can find a good article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid-state_drive

SSD has higher transfer rates and lower (better) access time as HDD. So depending on the applications and system, you will really get a better performance on SSD.

They are more expensive but for OS and programs only, 64GB should be enough.
There are a lot manufactures they offer SSD drives but G.Skill Falcon drives have a price-performance ratio. :)
