Tecra 5200 - Nothing happens after pressing the power button
Posted: 09-Feb-2010 15:38

When I press the "power button" of my childrens Tecra 5200 nothing happens, only the power LED in the front panel goes on, but Notebook does not boot - actually nothing happens.

Earlier I experienced following problems;
  • the internal HDD did not work, so I put the HDD into the Select Bay adapter and switched 2 HDDs (for each child 1 HDD with their own software / games)
  • computer got extremely hot on the surface (I had tried to open the computer and to clean inside, but it still got extremely hot)

Now to my question;
  • if the computer does not start, is is because of the internal HDD problem (discovered once in a while it recognized an old HDD, I had attached to the internal port, as otherwise the DVD-drive did not work) - and easy repair is possible
  • or could it be possible that the CPU got too hot and bust, which means I would not spend money on repair.

Hopefully someone can help and give his/ her advice.

hi rmbedi,
i think this machine has done it's job...
if this one becomes hot anything inside isnt good anymore...

for the safety of your children and yourself buy a new one: more power, warranty and some other features you (your childs) dont wanna miss again ;-)

Have you tried re-seating the RAM or trying different RAM?

If that doesn't help, you may need to send the laptop to an ASP for repair.

Thanks for help;
I have taken the computer apart again - as far as I could (did not get to open it fully - and cleaned from inside again.
It gets hot, but - do not know why - it is working and kids are happy foolin around with it.

Could not get the internat HDD fixed, I think the cable is bust. Without internal HDD the DVD-RAM drive does not function, so I put in an old 20GB HDD from one of my "old" TECRA-Modell" which fitted.

Guys at Toshiba;
please publish guides on you website on how to open "old" Notebooks, actually no one would spend money to give them in for repair. Other mfrs. do it i.e. others

I agree with you. I don't think someone will spend a lot of money to pay repair for these old notebooks.
