I made a backup on my new toshiba 1tb external hard drive (*PH3100U-1EXB*) using the backup/restore software that came with the product. The backup function worked fine.
The restore window works fine too if I use it on the same computer I did the backup on.
However, the restore window will not let me select the backup set if I try to restore on a different computer.
I'm using Windows XP SP3 on both computers. I've tried this on several computers and the results are consistent.
I can restore to only the computer I did the backup on.
Maybe you have to install the backup software firstly on each computer which you are using for backup…
Did you think about this?
Sorry, I’m not owner of such external HDD therefore I cannot say much about this backup software but from my knowledge every software need to be installed before using and running it.
The Toshiba Backup software is installed on the Toshiba HDD partition, not on your computer's internal storage drive. This means you can connect the drive to any computer, and have instant access to the backup software. You do not need to install the backup software on each computer you connect the drive to.
I've confirmed this by using the backup software on multiple computers without installing it on those other computers with no problem. The restore function also works on other computers...but only for the backup sets made on those other computers. Restore has two panes: 1) available backup sets and 2) selected backup set to restore. The problem is that I'm not allowed to select a backup set made on another computer from the available backup sets. The usersâ guide says that it is possible to make a backup on one computer and restore to another.
